Costs Information – Wills & Lasting Powers of Attorney

VAT is calculated at the current rate of 20% and where applicable will be shown as +VAT with the amount of VAT applicable in brackets

Wills

We can assist in the preparation of your Will so that you can make sure that when you pass away, your property and assets will pass to those you wish to have them. We prepare basic straightforward wills but in some more complicated cases or cases where detailed tax planning is required, we will advise you to seek specialist advice from a specialist private client solicitor or an accountant or other financial advisor.

Our work will include:-

  • Providing you with a dedicated practitioner experienced in Wills to work on your matter
  • Drafting your Will and discussing the draft Will with you
  • Preparing final engrossment of your Will for signature
  • Witnessing the signing of your Will at our office
  • Storing your original Will (if you wish us to do so)
  • Preparation of any separate Statements of Reasons or Expressions of Wishes to be kept with the Will (if required)

Our fixed fees for preparation of Wills are as follows:-

For conveyancing clients (including conveyancing client discount):
One Will£125 +VAT (£25)
Two Wills£175 +VAT (£35)
For non-conveyancing clients:
One Will£150 +VAT (£30)
Two Wills£275 +VAT (£55)

How long will it take to prepare my Will?

We normally expect to prepare and send the preliminary draft Will to you for consideration and comment within one week of you instructing us. We then prepare amended drafts for your approval until you are satisfied with the final version. We normally expect that you would sign your Will within approximately one month after we send the preliminary draft to you.

Lasting Powers of Attorney
(Property & Financial Affairs LPA and Health & Welfare LPA)

We can assist in the preparation of your Lasting Power(s) of Attorney to authorise others to make property and financial decisions on your behalf and to authorise others to make health and welfare decisions on your behalf.

Our fees

Our fixed fees for preparation of LPAs are as follows:-

Lasting Power of Attorney (Property & Financial Affairs)£375 +VAT (£75)
Lasting Power of Attorney (Health & Welfare)£375 +VAT (£75)
Discounted Fee for preparing both types of LPA at the same time for one person£650 +VAT (£130)

A registration fee of £82 is payable to the Office of the Public Guardian to register each LPA. No VAT is payable on this.

How long will my it take to prepare my LPA?

We normally expect to prepare and send the preliminary draft LPA to you within one week of you instructing us. We normally expect that you and the attorneys would sign your LPA within approximately one month after we send the preliminary draft to you. Following this we submit the signed LPA to the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) to be registered (if you wish to have it registered straight away). We would normally expect to receive the Registered LPA back from the OPG within approximately 12 weeks after we submit it.
